In its latest rankings, RoadSnacks takes a look at the most “redneck” cities in Connecticut even though it says it was a daunting task finding them.

RoadSnacks says it used data and science to compile its list, which is called “These Are The 10 Most Redneck Cities In Connecticut.”

The term “redneck” was a derogatory, slang term, but several years ago, comedian Jeff Foxworthy gave it a somewhat humorous connotation with jokes that began with “You might be a redneck if…”

Likely anticipating some negative reaction to a list focusing on “rednecks” the authors wrote, “This article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment. Don’t freak out.”

In its write-up RoadSnacks says, Connecticut was the “absolute hardest place to find rednecks in the nation.”

Their list was based partially on communities that had the least amount of high school graduates.

Other factors included the number of Walmarts nearby, dollar stores, mobile home parks, bars, gun and ammunition stores, and places to purchase fishing gear in a community.

Here is their list:

  1. Jewett City
  2. Bantam
  3. Westport
  4. Bethel
  5. Danielson
  6. Windham
  7. Shelton
  8. New London
  9. Newtown
  10. Bridgeport

Jewett City was ranked No. 1 because of its high number of gun shops and mobile home parks.

Bethel received its ranking because it has a high number of fish and bait shops and a decent number of places to buy guns nearby.

Shelton also made the top 10 because of a high number of mobile home parks, places to fish and for having a Walmart, the report notes.

“Trailer parks, fishing and a Walmart. For the rednecks that live in the Shelton area, it doesn’t get any better than that,” RoadSnacks writes.

New London was cited because its high school graduation rate was 79 percent and there are a number of bars in town.

“New London is a little bit blue collar, and it’s pretty obvious when you look at the data, there are quite a few necks in this area. They love guns and drinking, and they aren’t the smartest sticks in the stack,” RoadSnacks writes.

Newtown also made the top 10 because it has a high number of bars per capita, the report states.

“Newtown is an interesting place. It has everything a redneck could ever want, but the population is relatively educated and pretty damn rich. We’ll call these guys the rednecks with paychecks,” RoadSnacks writes.

“…Look at these guys; they enjoy the outdoors, bow hunting, fishing and throwing back some cold ones just like anyone else. They just drive the nicest Fords and Chevys and have to wait until the weekends to do it,” added RoadSnack regarding Newtown.
